pull back peru.

peru you are way too cool.
if i didn't like you, i'd be a fool.
my spanish was muy mal.
but you managed to be my pal.
through jungle, through mountain,
going back to you, the days i am countin'.

iquitos
after an over night trip on the amazon river, here we arrived to the glorious and relieving amazon city of iquitos.  bustling with motocarros and dusty streets.  this was the south american experience we were waiting for.

our first meal.  lechon.  filipinos know dis.  aka: piglet.  oink oink delicious.

on our way to the animal reserve where my camera proceeded to die.
crystal blue amazon.

totally over dressed for the jungle.

hey little guy.

some red faced monkey.  she was shy.

belem market: iquitos
one of the most interesting markets i have been to.  i would have to say it was up in my top three.  however even though this was one of the highlights of my trip, i was dumb enough to ingest something from the market, from which i can say didn't sit well with my stomach...
speaking of things not sitting well with the stomach, this may not be easy to look at for those who are sensitive or squirmish.
scales are a fish's best friend.

why is the turtle upside down?

for this guy to chill.

so gross.  turtle guts.

i always wondered what it looked like inside a turtle shell.  yeah... not anymore.  somethings you can't unsee.

catfish.

i will never get lost with barry around haha.

larvae.

had too many dranky dranks.

bluh blah duh douy duh bluh.

lima
the capital of peru and an upcoming metropolis, this coastal city showed off its rich and its diversity.  from ritzy restaurants and clubs, to chinatown, and crusty markets, lima is a treat for all.
colonialism.

with arms wide open.  -nickelback & jesus

tsk tsk.  sleeping on the job.

barry needs sunglasses.

they shortly fell over after this photo.

parque de fontanas.

this cat wants our icecream.

the coast.

huacachina.
here you come to chill out in what you thought was only in the movies.  in the midst of the hot and sandy desert there is an oasis.  yeah with palm trees, and the blurred vision, the whole bit.   here you can dash across the sand dunes in buggys and go sandboarding.  but i preferred to slide down on my belly.  awesome!

sand sand sand.

sweaty and dry.

ballestas islands: paracas.
considered the "poor mans galapagos", here you can see sea lions, penguins, and birds...so many birds.  also a lot of bird poop.  basically i was on a boat for 3 hours with old people, non of which spoke english.  got kinda seasick, and by gosh to sea lions smell like crap.  but i dragged the man and i all the way here because i was so keen to see these majestic creatures of land and sea.  so i took lots of pictures.  by the way,  i felt like throwing up during the taking of all of these photos.  enjoy.

la candelabro.  one of the mysterious nazca lines.  this has been carved into solid rock and is about three metres deep at this time even after years of erosion.

penguins.

BIRDS.

sleepy time.

angry pelican.

huh?

penguin sex.  i just googled it so i know it is.

stop taking pictures of meeee!

so regal.

this is national geographic stuff right hurr.

packin up, movin on.

cusco.
where most hippes come to die, and the jumping off point for treks to machu picchu. cusco is a city way to high up for my liking.  i spent most of my days wanting to sip cocoa tea by the gallons and sleeping.  but. must. resist. altitude.  i did my thang, visited markets and enjoyed the local scene.  but because i am dating a man who enjoys tests of physical endurance, there was no option to take the train to machu picchu.  so i got to choose between two trails.  the salkantay trail, which involves hiking through mount salkantay and sleeping in minus 25 degrees weather in tents, or the jungle trail, which involves hiking through the jungle for 3 days.  which one sounds better to you?  i think you can guess which one i chose by the photos.

the city of kings.

mount veronica!  cool.  the beginning of the trek.

vertigo.

our guide.  eber.

monkey humping a teddy bear.  i'm just kidding.  he loves that teddy bear.

WUH?!  LLAMA.
arequipa.
a fine city this is.  an UNESCO world heritage site, this city has more colonial architecture than any in peru.  pretty pretty.  the weather was sunny and the altitude wasn't as high.  the people are friendly and so was my outlook.  but to be honest i was just kinda excited to go home.
city square.

protest.

i'm such a tourist.

pretty epic.

taste with character.

hope you enjoyed.  bolivia to come.
